Bullying is a significant problem in Canadian schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. The event takes place on the last Wednesday of February.
The idea of wearing pink shirts to end bullying started with two teenagers in Nova Scotia, David Shepherd, and Travis Price. The two 17-year old's witnessed a 14-year-old student beaten for wearing a pink shirt. The boys were incensed and went to the local discount store and purchased 50 pink tank tops, which they then passed out to their fellow students.
Pink Shirt Day started a movement that gained momentum. Throughout Canada, wearing pink shirts in solidarity with bullying victims raises awareness of the issue.
